Women post third MAC win
AKRON, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team defeated the Akron Zips, 167-128 in Mid-American Conference action here at Ocasek Natatorium. The Eagles won four of the first five events en route to the victory.
With the win, the Green and White improve to 5-1 overall with a 3-1 MAC record. Akron falls to 0-5 and 0-4 in MAC action.
The 400 medley relay team of Tracy Morgan, Sheila Carson, Leeza Moser and Catherine Lee Ha got things started for the Eagles, taking the first event with a time of 3:58.93. Erin Rhoades won the 1,650 freestyle and Hannah Burandt followed that up with a victory in the 200 freestyle.
Ashley Durand won the 200 breaststroke, with Elisa Torres finishing first in the 100 butterfly. Becky Renkola took the three-meter dive on the afternoon. In addition to their relay victory, Carson won the 100 breaststroke, Lee Ha captured the 100 freestyle and Moser came away with the 200 backstroke.
The Eagles will take some time off until Friday, Nov. 30 when they host the EMU Invitational along with the men’s team. The Invitational is a 10-team, two-day meet and is scheduled to begin at 3:30. The invite will conclude Saturday, Dec. 1 with swimming at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
