, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team hosted in-state rival Central Michigan here today at Scicluna Field in the regular season home finale, dropping the match 2-1.
      With the loss, EMU falls to 7-7-4 (5-4-2 MAC) on the season, while Central Michigan finishes with a 8-10 overall mark and a 4-7 record in conference play.
      The Green and White got on the board early with freshman Stephanie Janssens finding the back of the net for her third goal of the year in the 23rd minute of the opening half for the 1-0 advantage.
      Central would waste little time evening the score, with sophomore Molly Gerst notching her seventh goal of the season off a Jenna Hill assist just five minutes later.
      The two teams would settle down offensively, entering halftime at a 1-1 standstill.
      The second half picked up right where the first ended, with both teams clamping down on defense. In the 71st minute, Stephanie Martin would take an Erica Rohren pass to net her eighth goal of the year, in which would turn out to be the game winner as the Chippewa defense was able to hold off a late EMU surge.
      EMU concludes the regular season with a 7-7-4 overall mark and a 5-4-2 conference record. Heading into today’s game, the Green and White sat in a third place tie with Northern Illinois in the MAC standings. The top four teams earn a home match in the first round of the tournament. Details on tournament seedings, game locations and times will be announced tomorrow morning.
