YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team jumped out to an early 14 point lead and never looked back in an 76-56 exhibition win over a visiting Northwood University team here Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.

The Eagles were led by senior guard Jarred Axon (Jackson,Mich.-Jackson) who scored 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting including 5-for-8 on three point shots. Senior forward Nenad Banjanin (Belgrade, Serbia-Lon Morris) led the Eagles in rebounds with seven. As a team, the Eagles shot 66.7 percent from three-point land and 53.7 percent from the field. The defense held Northwood to a 36.2 field goal percentage.
Head coach Charles Ramsey’s Eagles shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the first half including 57.1 percent from beyond the three-point line to take a 38-27 lead into the lockerroom. Sophomore Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Oh.-Glenville) had nine points and five rebounds to lead EMU at the break.
EMU continued to dominate in the second half with two straight dunks, by Dobbins and Will Cooper (Detroit, Mich. -Pershing-Bridgton Academy), to take a 42-29 advantage in the early stages of the second half. The Eagles would go on to build a lead by as many as 25 points in the second stanza.
The Eagles will be back in action at the Convocation Center when they open regular season play versus Brown University Friday, Nov. 9 at noon.
