Junior Katie Zundel heads in game winner with :44 seconds remaining
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-0 double overtime victory over Western Michigan University here Friday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.
EMU moves to 7-5-4 (5-2-2 MAC) with the win, while the Broncos fall to 3-10-3 (1-6-2 MAC) on the season.
Junior Katie Zundel headed the game-winning goal off a Stephanie Janssens corner kick with :44 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. The header was just the sixth shot on goal for the Green and White on the day.
The Eagles entered today’s contest currently in third place in the MAC women’s soccer standings with two games remaining.
Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville made three saves, picking up her fifth shutout of the season.
The Eagles will be in action again Sunday, Oct. 28, as they travel to DeKalb, Ill., to take on the Huskies of Northern Illinois University in MAC West action. Game time is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
