Eagles Suffer 5-2 Defeat

EAST LANSING, Mich. —The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team suffered its second loss of the season as they were defeated by Michigan State University, 5-2, today at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center. The loss drops the Eagles to 1-2 on the season.
Leading the way for EMU was junior Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Onterio-Canada-Markvile Secondary School) and senior Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64). Krishnan defeated Stephanie Kebler 6-1, 6-3 in the number two singles match. In the number three singles match, Parfenyuk needed three sets to close the match against Pascale Schnitzer as she won 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
In doubles action, the Eagles were not able to get going early as they dropped all three matches. "I was unhappy with the doubles play today, we played timid out on the court and it showed throughout the matches, however, the ladies showed alot more competitive spirit in singles, and the results showed", said head coach Ryan Ray.
The number one doubles team of Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) and Parfenyuk were defeated 8-4. The number two doubles team of Krishnan and Catherina Bestehorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Iching Gymnasium) also suffered an 8-4 setback on the day.
The Eagles will continue on the road as they travel to Madison, Wisconsin for a non-conference dual match against the Badgers tomorrow, Jan. 28. The match is set for a noon start time.
