Women's Tennis Upends Morehead State

EMU Sweeps MSU in Huntington
Huntington, W. Va.
—The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team bounced back from yesterday's defeat by No. 60 Marshall by sweeping Moorehead State earlier today at the Huntington Tennis Club. It was the first victory in the spring season for the Eagles.Leading the way for EMU was Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium), who is ranked No. 45 in the country according to the latest FILA/ITA national rankings. Frankowski defeated Heather Butt 6-1, 6-1 in the number one singles match.
Also posting victories in straight sets on the day were Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Onterio-Canada-Markvile Secondary School), Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64), Catherina Bestehorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Iching Gymnasium), Emma Czarnecki (Berkley, Mich.-Berkley High School), and Laura Fernandez (La Vega, Dominican Republic-Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion).
In doubles action, the Eagles continued their dominance by sweeping all matches. Frankowski and Parfenyuk won the number one match 8-1 while Krishnan and Bestehorn defeated Megan Sammons and Stefanie Craun, 8-3. In the third doubles match Cazrnecki and Fernandez blanked Alix Lakow and Ali Nickell, 8-0.
The Eagles will be in action next Jan. 27, as they travel to East Lansing, Mich. to take on Michigan State in a non-conference dual match.
