CHARLESTON, Ill. – A pair of Eastern Michigan University women's soccer standouts posted goals Friday afternoon, Sept. 8, helping the Eagles to a 2-0 victory over Eastern Illinois. The non-conference match was held at EIU's Lakeside Field.
Eastern Michigan (2-1-1) became the first visiting team since 2004 to score multiple goals on EIU’s home field by scoring in the 25th and 71st minutes. The decision was just EMU’s first road win of the young season. Freshman Maggie Christiansen (Orland Parks, Ill./AA Stagg) tallied the first goal on a rebound and junior Sara Schiffbauer (Westerville, Ohio/North) headed in the insurance goal after EMU's lone free kick of the second half. Both goals were the first of the season for the respective Eagle.
Freshman goalie Monique Budani (Whitby Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) made four saves in the other net en route to her third shutout of the year.
The Eagles will conclude the two-game road trip Sunday, Sept. 10, when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to square off the Iowa Hawkeyes at 1 p.m.
