EL PASO, Texas –
The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell behind early and nearly rallied to claim the match after trailing 2-0, but Texas Tech was able to pull out the 3-2 decision at the Sun Bowl Volleyball Classic. The Red Raiders had an impressive early run winning 30-25 and 30-27, but the Eagles took the next two 37-35 and 30-20. An early Texas Tech lead proved costly for the Eagles in the finale, as the Red Raiders took the victory with a 15-9 game five decision.

After trailing by as many as three in the first game, TTU took over after a 20-all score to win 30-25. Game two was filled with 18 ties and seven lead changes as earned the Red Raiders the 30-27 victory.

Games three and four belonged to Eastern Michigan. The Eagles gained their first lead of game three at 9-8 and led by as many as six, 23-17. After a Texas Tech timeout, the Red Raiders pulled within two at 25-23, and eventually took the lead at 28-27. After a long battle for points at the end, the Eagles landed on top to take the game 37-35.

In the final game, the Red Raiders took an early lead at 5-2, to which Eastern Michigan could not find an answer as Texas Tech remained ahead to capture the victory on a 15-9 game five.

Statistically the Red Raiders and Eagles were on near-even ground as Texas Tech hit .169 (76 kills, 40 errors, 213 attempts) and Eastern Michigan averaged .178 (69 kills, 34 errors, 197 attempts). Lindsay Piccolini led EMU in kills with 23, while Victoria Randolph added 15. Eastern had seven service aces, led by Abby Reenders' three. Ashley Cudney led EMU defensively with 23 digs, and was closely followed by Randolph with 17. The Red Raiders added 10 blocks, with Piccolini posting six assisted.

Eastern Michigan will play its final match of the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso this evening versus Sacramento State. Estimated time for the match is 7 p.m. EST.
