CLEVELAND, Ohio-- Eastern Michigan University senior Korey Mahoney (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) closed out his stellar collegiate career Saturday, firing a five-over 76 in the final round of the NCAA Central Regional here at the Sand Ridge Golf Club. Mahoney finished the 54-hole tournament tied for 47th place with a 10-over 223 (69-78-76).
Mahoney, who started the final round on the tenth hole, encountered bogeys on the No. 2 and 4 holes, while suffering a pair of double bogeys No. 3 and 10. His only birdie came on the par-four 15th hole.
Mahoney, the Mid-American Conference's 2006 Golfer of the Year, was one of six at-large golfers selected nationally to play in the regional tournament. He was vying for an opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships May 31-June 3 at the Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.
The East Lansing, Mich. native was one of EMU’s most consistent scorers in his four-year career for the Eagles. Mahoney played in all 12 tournaments this season, averaging 72.09 strokes per round, the lowest average in the conference. He also has seven top 10 finishes to his credit and has finished in the Top 25 in all but one tournament.

He carded a season-low 67 in the second round of the Xavier Invitational to finish ninth with a 54-hole total of 211 (70-67-74). For his career, Mahoney won four tournament titles, including two this season.
