Men's Golf Claims Team Title at Marshall Invitational

Senior Peter Sauerbrei wins in a playoff to claim medalist honors
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team held on to capture the 37th Annual Marshall Invitational Saturday afternoon at Guyan Golf and Country Club with a team total of 868 (294-285-289), 10 strokes better than second-place Ball State, which finished at 878 (298-294-286). The Eagles’ Peter Sauerbrei defeated Marshall junior Shawn Warren in a playoff to win medalist honors.
Sauerbrei shot a final-round 68 to finish at 213 (75-70-68) and force a playoff with Warren, who also fired a final-round 68. Saurbrei birdied number 10, the first playoff hole, to claim medalist honors over Warren. The first place finish was Sauerbrei’s best in his three-year EMU career.
The Eagles also had a quality performance from freshman Chris Ross who tied for sixth with a 216 (71-70-75), his best finish as a collegian. Other EMU scorers were Korey Mahoney, who fired a 222 (74-73-75, T-24), Graham Hill, who scored a 223 (80-72-71, T-46), and Bryan Haase, who totaled a 228 (74-77-77, T-58). Competing as an individual was junior Sean Kelly, who carded a 224 (75-76-73) for a 38th place showing.
Eastern Michigan next takes to the course April 22-23 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in University Park, Pa.
