EMU Golfers Finish Third at MAC Championships

Korey Mahoney and Chris Ross finish tied for seventh
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team was unable to hold off Ball State in Saturday’s final round of the 72-hole tournament, as the Cardinals edged the Eagles by three stroke to finish in second place at the Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships at Brickyard Crossing Golf Course.
Senior Korey Mahoney led the Eagles, finishing in a tie for seventh place at four-over par 292 (78-74-70-70). Freshman Chris Ross also finished tied for seventh place with a 282 (74-74-70-74), while sophomore Graham Hill and junior Bryan Haase tied for 15th place at seven-over par 295. Senior Peter Sauerbrei finished in a tie for 30th place with a 302 (79-75-75-73).
For their accomplishments this season, Mahoney earned first team All-MAC honors while Hill garnered second team honors.
For the second consecutive year, Kent State won MAC Championship as the Golden Flashes’ Marc Bourgeois (71-73-70-71) and Tommy Weigand (73-69-68-75) both tied for first-place honors shooting three-under-par (285) for the tournament. This is the second year in a row that Kent State teammates have shared the individual title.
Kent State will represent the Mid-American Conference at the NCAA Central Regional, May 18-20, at the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Cleveland, Ohio.
