HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Despite stormy weather on Friday, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team carded a 285 in the second round of the Marshall Invitational to surge to the front of the 15-team field after two rounds at the Guyan Golf and Country Club. The Eagles posted a team score of 579 for the day (294-285). Akron is in second with a 583 (287-296), and the host Thundering Herd is in third place with a team total of 585 (296-289).
EMU’s Chris Ross sits atop the individual leader board, having posted a one-under par 141 (71-70), two strokes ahead of Brian DeBuhr of Iowa and Nathan Kinker of Marshall, which shot a one-over par 143 through 36-holes.
Friday’s play was halted for close to two hours because of rain. Teams concluded play at around 7:30 p.m. in much cooler conditions.
Senior Peter Sauerbrei is the next best Eagle in a seventh place tie, carding a 145 (75-70). Senior Korey Mahoney is tied for 19th with a 147 (74-73), junior Bryan Hasse recorded a 151 (74-77) for 47th place and sophomore Graham Hill is tied for 54th with a 152 (80-72). Competing as an individual is junior Sean Kelly, who fired a 151 (75-76) for a 51st place showing.
Final round play will be held on Saturday with the first tee time set for 8 a.m.
