YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team had its five game winning streak snapped with a 7-0 shut out by MAC-rival Ball State here at Oestrike Stadium. Play during Saturday’s game was postponed due to severe weather conditions and was resumed today with the Eagles trailing the Cardinals, 5-0, in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With the loss, EMU (19-17, 8-6 MAC)) falls into a second place tie with Ball State (21-17, 8-6 MAC) and Western Michigan.

EMU had no answer for the Ball State pitching staff of Tyler Pritchard and Richie Fralick who combined for the shut out victory allowing eight total hits. Sophomore Jeff Davis led the Eagles offensively going 2-for-2 for the plate while junior George Biddle picked up his third loss of the season.

Ball State was led by senior Brad Miller who hit 3-for-4 with four RBI and three home runs.

At the start of the contest, heavy rains in the area forced a one hour and 45 minute delay. As play began, both teams struggled to score runs off solid pitching efforts through the first three innings by junior Biddle and Pritchard.

Ball State got on the board first in the top of the fourth as Brad Miller hit a towering home run to left center to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.

BSU tacked on two runs off a Singleton double and Sullivan single in the top of the fifth. Miller also hit his second home run of the game driving in two runs to increase Ball State’s lead to 5-0. The Cardinals added another run in the eighth and ninth for the 7-0 victory.

EMU and Ball State will play the final game of the series at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 23.
