Eagles swept in two-game series
MOUNT PLESENT, Mich. — For the second straight day the EMU softball team out-hit Central Michigan but lost the game as the Eagles fell, 3-2, here Saturday at the CMU Softball Complex. Friday, EMU dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chippewas.
Saturday EMU totaled seven hits to Central’s four, with two Eagles posting multi-hit performances. Sophomore first baseman Ashley Strauss (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton) and junior shortstop Lauren Clark (Flat Rock, Mich.-New Boston Huron) each belted two hits in the contest.
Lost opportunities hurt the Eagles as they left 10 runners on base to CMU’s 3. EMU left the bases loaded in the fifth, left two on in the sixth and left the tying run a second base in the seventh.
Junior pitcher Michelle Lloyd (Akron, Ohio-Archbishop Hoban) went six innings allowing three earned runs, while striking out five batters in the complete game loss.
Eastern scored first in the third after an RBI single by Clark. The Eagles kept the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth when CMU scored all three of its runs off three hits. Lindsay Schmid’s (Madison, Ohio-Madison) bases loaded single in the fifth brought the score to 3-2.
The Eagles (18-21; 6-4 MAC) will be in action again Friday, April 21, when they travel to Toledo, Ohio for a doubleheader. The MAC twinbill is set to begin at 1 p.m.
