Eagles drop 6-1 decision to Broncos
YPSILANTI, Mich.— The first home outdoor meet of the season was a disappointing one for the Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team as in-state rival Western Michigan University recorded a 6-1 Mid-American Conference dual-meet win over the Eagles here on Good Friday on the outdoor courts at the Chippewa Racket Club.
The MAC-leading Broncos started the day by winning all three doubles matches and added five wins in six singles to post the 6-1 win. Western is now 15-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play. Eastern drops to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in MAC action. EMU is set to return to Chippewa tomorrow for the final home meet of the season against MAC rival Bowling Green.
Western got off to a fast start as they cruised through the doubles competition winning all three matches decisively to take a 1-0 lead.
During singles play, the Eagles were led by sophomore Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64) who improved to a perfect 6-0 in MAC play with a 7-5, 6-0 straight-set victory over Rattiya Hiranrat at the No. 4 position.
