Graham Hill Wins Orange County National Invitational

Eagles finish third in 15-team field with a team total of 858
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Sophomore Graham Hill (Brights Grove, Ontario-Northern Collegiate (Indiana (Pa.)) fired a seven-under par 65 in the final round of the 2006 Orange County National Invitational to take medalist honors and lead the Eagles to a third-place finish in the spring event. Hill tied with Lamar's Andre Landry and Justin Harding atop the leader board, but due to flight conflicts leaving Orlando a playoff was not conducted.
As a team, the Eagles finished in third place at the 15-team event with a 54-hole total of 858 (290-282-286) on the par 72, 7,277-yard Crooked Cat Course. Lamar University ran away with the team championship after shooting an opening round 17-under par 271. The Cardinals followed with a 279 and a 283 for a total of 31-under 833. Host Xavier University turned in a 852 to capture runner-up honors.
The Green and White opened the two-day tournament tallying a 290 team total in Saturday’s first round and followed with a 282 in the second round to vault themselves into second place with a 572 total. With Hills's seven-under and senior Korey Mahoney's (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) 70 today, the Eagles posted a 286 final round tally to finish with a total of 858.
The win was Hill's second in three events, after winning the Hoya Invitational, Oct. 22-23, 2005, to close the fall campaign. After opening with a 73 in the first round, he posted rounds of 70 and 65 to seal the victory.
Mahoney tied for 10th with a 213 total. After struggling in the opening rounds, posting a 74, he rebounding with a 69 and a 70 to give him a 213 total. Other Eagle scores included: freshman Chris Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside), tied for 19th with a 216 total (69-74-73), senior Peter Sauerbrei (Kingston, Ontario), tied for 36th with a 221 total (74-69-78) and senior Kevin Ackford (Midland, Mich.-Dow (Michigan State)) finished 55th with a 226 total (74-74-78).
The Eagles will continue the spring season with a trip to Mobile, Ala., Monday through Tuesday (March 13-14) for the South Alabama Spring Intercollegiate.
