Women’s Tennis Blitzed by No. 2 Ranked Notre Dame

Fighting Irish shut out Eagles, 7-0
NOTRE DAME, Ind.— The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team ran into one of the top teams in the nation here Friday at the Courtney Tennis Center and suffered a 7-0 shutout to the No. 2 ranked Notre Dame University squad.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 6-7 overall. Notre Dame moves to 17-1 on the season, including a 15-match home victory winning streak. The Fighting Irish have four players currently ranked in the NCAA Division I poll.
In Friday's dual, Notre Dame jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles contests. The No. 1 doubles team of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft, ranked No. 29, notched an 8-1 decision over EMU's duo of Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) and Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64). At No. 2 doubles, Notre Dame's Lauren Connelly and Catrina Thompson recorded an 8-3 decision over Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Ontario-Canada-Markville Secondary School) and Elizabeth Syrova (Montreal, Quebec, Canada-Ecole Secondaire Jean XXIII Dorval). The Notre Dame No. 3 doubles team of Kelly Nelson and Katie Potts defeated EMU's Laura Fernandez (La Vega, Dominican Republic-Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion) and Flavia Micatia (Rio de Janerio, Brazil-Cejo Terejopolis RJ), 8-5.
The Eagles then went into singles action and lost all six matches. Catrina Thompson, ranked 30th, defeated Syrova, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Brook Buck beat EMU's Krishnan, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2. Tefft, ranked 110th in the nation, defeated Frankowski, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3; Potts handed Parfenyuk a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 4; Connelly defeated Catherina Bestahorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Iching Gymnasium), 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 and Nelson defeated Fernandez, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.
Eastern will swing back into action Saturday, April 1, at Northern Illinois.
