Men's Golf Finishes 12th at First Tee Collegiate

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in 12th place at the First Tee Collegiate hosted by the University of Arkanas-Little Rock. The Eagles turned in a 54-hole team score of 919 (307-301-311) as Lamar University won the team title with a two-day total of 877.

Senior Korey Mahoney led the Eagles with a 223 (71-77-75) total and a 15th-place finish after closing out the event with a 75. Senior Peter Sauerbrei finished eight strokes back with a 231total (79-73-79), earning a share of 44th. Sophomore Graham Hill finished tied for 52nd with a 235 (78-76-81) while senior Kevin Ackford and freshman Chris Ross rounded out the line ups with 237 and 240, respectively.

Lamar entered the final round tied with Texas-Arlington atop the leader board, but carded a 295 over the final 18 holes to claim the tournament title. Three players finished inside the top 10 to lead the Cardinals to victory.

North Texas’ Austin Welch came in to Tuesday’s action holding a two-shot lead over the field and held on to take medalist honors after posting a 72 in the final round. Welch finished with a four-under par 212 total (70-70-72), two shots up on Houston’s Pablo Acuna (72-70-72) and Louisiana-Monroe’s Pat Collogan (75-70-69), who shared second place. Collogon’s 69 was the lowest round of the day.
