Women's Tennis Evens MAC Mark With Win Over Ball State

Eagles now 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the MAC after 6-1 victory over visiting Cardinals
YPSILANTI, Mich.— The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis came back from a 4-3 loss to Miami Friday (March 24) with a resounding 6-1 victory over Ball State University here Saturday afternoon in a Mid-American Conference dual match held indoors at the Chippewa Racket Club.
The win gives the Eagles a 6-6 overall record and a 1-1 MAC mark heading into a five-game road streak. Ball State drops to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in league play.
In Saturday's dual match, EMU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Catherina Bestahorn and Elizabeth Syrova defeated Ball State's tandem of Katie Owens/Stephanie Farrar, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. EMU's Falvia Micoti and Laura Fernandez upended Jennifer Pollack/Rachel Lemar, 8-4, at the No. 3 position to secure the doubles point.
During singles competition, the Eagles locked up the match early, notching victories in five out of the six matches. Vanessa Frankowski took out Haly Calderwood, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot while Fernandez defeated Rachel Lemar, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 position. Aditi Krishnan also notched a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Jennifer Pollack at No. 2 while Bestahorn upended Emma Retter, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot and Yana Parfenyuk earned a hard fought three-set victory over Katie Owens, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 at the No. 4 position.
EMU plays the first of five consecutive road matches with a dual match at Notre Dame, March 31, at 2:30 p.m.
