MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell 3-1 to West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Hawley Field. With the loss, EMU falls to 4-9 on the season while West Virginia moves to 14-3 overall.

EMU was led by senior Matt Moffett who hit a solo home run on his only at bat of the game in the top of the eighth inning. However, that was the Eagles’ only run of the game as they could not get any offensive production against West Virginia senior Marty Fagler who pitched 7.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and five hits before giving up Moffet’s homerun.

Sophomore Steve Bradshaw had another productive effort from the plate going 2-for-4. Sophomore Jeff Fischer (3-2) pitched 6.0 innings with three strikeouts, six hits, three walks and three earned runs with 29 batters faced.

Eastern fell behind early as West Virginia put up one run in the third and added two more in the sixth inning for a 3-0 lead. EMU pulled to 3-1 on Moffet’s solo shot but WVA junior reliever Dan Leatherman pitched 2.0 of scoreless work to pick up the save and lock up the Mountaineers’ eighth straight victory.

The final game of the three game series between EMU and West Virginia is set for Sunday, March 19, at 1 p.m.
