MORGANTOWN
, W.Va. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team lost 4-3 in a hard fought 10-inning decision to West Virginia Friday afternoon at Hawley Field. With the Eagles leading 3-2 in the bottom of the tenth, the Mountaineers’ Adam White hit a walk-off two-run homer off sophomore closer Jeff Davis for the victory. With the loss, EMU falls to 4-8 on the season while West Virginia moves to 13-3 overall.

Junior George Biddle gave a solid effort on the mound with four strikeouts, six hits and two earned runs with 31 batters faced. Sophomore Steve Bradshaw led the Eagles offensively going 2-for-5 with one RBI. Davis also tallied one run scored going 1-for-4 from the plate.

Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Bradshaw grounder that scored Eric Pelot from third. West Virgina responded with a run in the sixth inning tying the score at 1-1.

EMU regained the lead in the top of the ninth inning as Matt Moffett hit a sacrifice fly to score Aaron Powell to put the Eagles up 2-1. WVU once again responded with as Stan Posluszny hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off Biddle to tie the score, 2-2.

Davis scored in the top of the tenth on a throwing error to give the Eagles and 3-2 lead but it was short-lived as While’s two run shot gave WVU the 4-2 win.

The second game of the three game series between EMU and West Virginia is set for Saturday, March 18, at 1 p.m.
