Gymnastics Comes Up Short at Bowling Green

Falcons claim 191.850-191.025 victory over EMU
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Eastern Michigan University women’s gymnastics team came up just shy of a victory against Mid-American Conference foe Bowling Green, 191.850-191.025, Friday night at the Eppler Complex. The meet was EMU’s second consecutive dual meet that was decided by less than a point.
The Eagles fall to 8-7 (3-3 MAC) with the setback, while the Falcons improve to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in league action.
Freshman Duyen Zu Vuong had another stellar performance tonight capturing her third all around title of the season with a total of 38.675. The cumulative score of 38.675 is her second highest all around total in her brief collegiate career. Individually, Vuong tied for second on the vault with a 9.725 and tied for third on the bars with a 9.625. The Ottawa, Ontario native also finished fourth on the beam (9.600) and tied for fourth on the floor (9.725).
Sophomore Tawna Bennett earned a first place finish on vault with a 9.800. It marked the fifth time this season that she has won the event and the seventh time in her career. Bennett also scored a 9.750 on the floor for a third place showing.
Junior Rebecca Fuss finished as the runner-up on the uneven bars with a score of 9.650, while sophomore Jolene Worley placed second on the balance beam with a 9.675.
The Eagles next action will be the MAC Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. Saturday, March 25. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on the campus of Western Michigan
