Lone Eagle wins first match at 133 pounds
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK –– Senior 133-pounder Phillip Plowman (Sunfield, Mich.-Lakewood) started the 2006 NCAA Wrestling Championships in style here Thursday, winning a 9-6 decision over the No. 9 ranked wrestler, Boise State's Scott Jorgensen, in the first round of the competition.
That win over Jorgensen advanced Plowman to the second round where he lost an 8-6 heartbreaker to No. 8 ranked Matt Keller of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Keller recorded a takedown of Plowman with just 50 seconds left in the match to take the two-point win.
Plowman will now drop to the wrestlebacks where he hopes to get back on the winning side Friday.
Plowman is the only EMU wrestler in the NCAA's, advancing on a second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
