Lone Eagle drops two straight close decisions
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK –– Senior 133-pounder Phillip Plowman (Sunfield, Mich.-Lakewood) turned in three close finishes but could not stave off elimination in the 2006 NCAA Wrestling Championships here Thursday and Friday.
Plowman, EMU's lone wrestler to qualify for the championships after placing second in the 133-pound weight class at the Mid-American Conference Championships, started the NCAA's in style, winning a 9-6 decision over the No. 9 ranked wrestler, Boise State's Scott Jorgensen, in the first round of the competition.
That win over Jorgensen advanced Plowman to the second round where he lost an 8-6 heartbreaker to No. 8 ranked Matt Keller of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Thursday evening. Keller recorded a takedown of Plowman with just 50 seconds left in the match to take the two-point win.
Plowman then dropped to the wrestlebacks and once again came up with a tight match, dropping a 7-6 decision to Cleveland State's David Armstrong, eliminating him from further competition.
