Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at South Alabama Spring Golf Classic

Freshman Chris Ross ties for 14th place with a 221
MOBILE, Ala. – The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team struggled on the final day of the 2006 University of Southern Alabama Spring Golf Classic, posting a final round 312 to finish in seventh place, at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, Ala., March 13-14.
Leading the way for the Eagles was freshman Chris Ross. Ross carded rounds of 74, 71 and 76 to tie for 14th place with a 221 after 54-holes. Senior Kevin Ackford fired rounds of 72, 74 and 77 for a total of 223. Sophomore Graham Hill shot a 224 (73-74-77), senior Korey Mahoney finished with a 228 (88-68-82), while senior Peter Sauerbrei added a 230 (74-73-83).
Ole Miss, the day one leader, fired a 290 in the final round to take home team honors. The Rebels three round total of 856 was tops with Southern Miss taking second with 877. Middle Tennessee took third with 881, Mississippi State was fourth at 883 and the University of Iowa rounded out the top five with 888.
Individually, Kyle Ellis of Ole Miss, carded a final round 71 to go along with a 68 and a 73 on day one. Ellis’ total of six under-par 212 was four shots clear of teammates Jamie Howarth and Will Roubuck. Noah Goldman of Mississippi State and Chas Narramore also finshed tied for second. Caldwell was the top Jag finisher in a tie for 10th seven shots out of the lead.
Next up for Eastern Michigan is the Arkansas-Little Rock Invitational, March 17-18.
