EMU HOSTS AKRON ON "CRAM THE CONVO" NIGHT: Eastern will swing back into action Saturday, Feb. 11, when it hosts Akron in a 7:30 p.m. game in the Convocation Center. The game is part of Hall of Fame Saturday at EMU with the 30th Annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony set for 10:30 a.m. in the atrium of the Convocation Center.
THE SERIES: This is the 31st meeting between the two teams and EMU has a 17-13 lead. Akron has an 8-3 record over the last 11 games, including winning both games last year as well as the first this year, 79-61, Jan. 21, in Akron. EMU’s last win came on Feb. 7, 2004, in Ypsilanti when the Eagles recorded a 77-54 victory.
HOMETOWN FLAVOR: When the EMU basketball team plays host to Akron, Ohio Saturday, Feb. 11, the Eagles will be facing a familiar face on the Akron bench. Keith Dambrot, now in his second year as Akron’s head man, was an assistant men’s basketball coach at EMU from 1986-89.
LONG TIME COMING: The Eagles were involved in a lot of streak breaking with two consecutive MAC wins last week. Wednesday (Feb. 1) the Eagles snapped a nine-game MAC losing streak this season with an 81-75 win over a visiting Central Michigan team. Saturday (Feb. 4) the Eagles broke a 12-game MAC-road losing streak (17 games overall), dating back to an 86-82 win at Central Michigan, Jan. 9, 2005, with a 56-43 victory at Ball State. The 43 points by Ball State is the lowest MAC-point total allowed by the Eagles since the 1999-2000 squad won a 68-43 decision at Western Michigan, Feb. 2, 2000, a total of 114 games between 43’s.
HALL OF FAME THIS SATURDAY: The 30th Annual EMU Athletic Hall of Fame, sponsored by the E-Club Alumni Chapter, will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in the atrium of the Convocation Center.
