Four Eagles take home all four event championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The Eastern Michigan University women’s gymnastics team defeated Ursinus College, 191.225-178.800, Tuesday night here at at Helfferich Gymnasium. Freshman Zu Vuong turned in a stellar outing claiming two event championships along with winning her second career all-around championship.
 
With the victory EMU improves to 4-6 on the season, while Ursinus drops to 3-12.
 
The Green and White dominated every event, taking first place in every rotation. On the vault, sophomore Tawna Bennett took home the individual honors with a 9.750 and Zu Vuong placed second with a 9.700.
 
On the uneven bars, EMU took the first-five places with Zu Vuong taking home first place with a 9.775, while sophomore Jolene Worley recorded a 9.700 for runner-up honors. In the third rotation, Zu Vuong claimed her second individual championship with a 9.700 while junior Rebecca Fuss placed second with a 9.525.
 
On the floor Fuss became the third Eagle to capture medalist honors, posting a 9.750 to win the event. Worley and Zu Vuong tied for third with a 9.650, while Bennett and sophomore Nicole O’Hara finished fifth with a 9.600.
 
Zu Vuong posted a career-high 38.825 en route to earning her second career all-around championship. Worley’s total of 38.225 was good for second place while Fuss finished third with a 38.175.
 
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 4, at noon as they continue their east coast swing with a visit to Cornell University. The Eagles and Big Red will be joined by Scarlet Knights in the triangular event.
