Women's Tennis Upends Cincinnati

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Eastern Michigan University women’s team shut out the University of Cincinnati, 7-0, here Sunday at the Chippewa Racquet Club. With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-2 on the season while the Bearcats fall to 0-10.
Eastern took control of the match with quick victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots to wrap up the doubles point. Laura Fernanzez (La Vega, Dominican Republic-Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion) and Catherina Bestahorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Iching Gymnasium) earned a hard-fought victory over the Cincinnati tandem of Elizabeth Young and Jenny Rowen to complete the doubles sweep for the Eagles.
During singles play, the Eagles were led by junior Elizabeth Syrova (Montreal, Quebec-Ecole Secondaire Jean XXIII Dorval)
who defeated Cincy's Elizabeth Young, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot while sophomore Aditi Krishman (Merkhem, Onterio-Canada-Markville Secondary School) continued her impressive season notching a 6-0, 6-2, straight-set victory at the No. 3 singles position over Lindsay Willeford. The Eagles went on to earn victories at the No. 3 thru No. 6 positions to earn its third victory of the season.
EMU heads to Florida for four road dual matches at Central Florida (Feb. 28), 11 a.m., versus Savannah State (March 1), 11 a.m., at North Florida (March 3), 2 p.m. and at Jacksonville (March 3), 2 p.m.
