Eagles come up short against Bobcats

Ohio wins meet on last match heroics
ATHENS, Ohio
– The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team opened up their Mid-American Conference schedule at Ohio University this weekend, dropping a close match, 18-15 at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio. The Eagles fell to 2-2 on the year and 0-1 in the conference, while Ohio improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in MAC.Sophomore John McClure (Holland, Mich.-West Ottawa)
opened up the 184 lbs. class match against Nick Terbay, defeating the fourth ranked wrestler in the MAC in the 184 lbs. weight class 2-0 in a close match. Senior Tony Lyssiotis (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford), who is ranked third in the MAC in the 197 lbs. weight class, followed McClure’s lead, winning his match against Larry Reichard 2-0, who is also ranked No. 4 in the 197 lbs. weight class.Senior Jermain Thompson (Akron, Ohio-Kenmore) who is ranked No. 15 in the country in the latest NWCA rankings, needed an escape and takedown in the final period to defeat Clay Tucker 5-3 in the 149 lbs. weight class match.
With the Eagles up 15-12, Jacob Ison defeated senior Nick Conklin (Milton, Wisc.-Milton) in the 165 lbs. match. Heading into the final period, Conklin held a 2-1 lead but with three seconds left in the match, Ison earned a two-point reversal and two back points, coming from behind to take the match 5-2 and knot the score at 15-15 overall.
The final match of the meet rested on the shoulders of redshirt freshman Josh Lewis (West Liberty, Ohio-Salem). Lewis fell behind early, finding himself down 5-0 after the first period to an injured Antione Love. After an injury timeout, Lewis earned two points on a reverse to make the score 5-2, but was unable to overcome the first period deficit, dropping the match 7-6 and giving the Bobcats the 18-15 victory.
The Eagles will be in action again Dec. 17, at the Flight Duals, in Park Forrest, Ill. The Flight Duals will be an all day event.
