SCOUTING MARQUETTE: Marquette comes into the contest against EMU with a perfect 3-0 record and is ranked No. 16 in the AP Preseason Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches’ Poll. The Golden Eagles are led by sophomore point guard Dominic James who has been named to the 2006-07 John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50, Rivals.com Preseason All-America First Team and the Collegehoops.net Preseason All-American First Team. James was the Big East Rookie of the Year in 2005-06 while leading Marquette in scoring averaging 15.3 points per game and 5.4 assists. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish in fourth in the Big East coaches poll and leads the all time series against EMU, 1-0. The Eagles are 4-12 all-time versus schools from the Big East Conference.

DEFENSE IS STEALING THE SHOW: The EMU basketball team notched a season-high 18 steals versus Davison (11-10-06) and 12 against CCSU (11-11-06). The 18 steals was the most tallied by the team since they got 22 rips against Navy, 1-7-04. The team currently has 35 total seals with ranks third in the Mid-American Conference. Sophomore Carlos Medlock is leading MAC and the team in steals individually with 14 on the year.

HITTING FROM THE CHARITY STRIPE: The EMU men’s basketball team is currently ranked second in the Mid-American Conference in free-throw percentage connecting on 49-of61 shots (.803 percent) from the line. The Eagles also have four players who have not missed from the line so far this season: Craig Cashen (6-6), Brandon Bowdry (4-40, Chris Knaub (2-2) and Jarred Axon (2-2).

BUNKLEY HOT FROM DOWNTOWN: Junior Jesse Bunkley is off to a good start shooting from three-point range. So far, the Detroit, Mich. native has connected on 9-of-21 shots for an impressive .429 percentage.
