Wrestling Signs Five to National Letters

YPSILANTI, Mich.
– In only his first season as head wrestling coach at Eastern Michigan University, Derek DelPorto is already hard at work recruiting this season, inking five wrestlers to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. DelPorto announced today that Andrew Novak (New Boston, Mich-New Boston Huron), J.J. Johnson (Rockford, Mich-Rockford), Corey Philips (Canton, Mich.-Canton), Justin Joseph (Lapeer, Mich-Lapeer East), and Derek Foore (Medina, Ohio-Wadsworth) will all join the Eagles’ roster next season."We are very excited to bring in 5 talented and successful student-athletes during the early signing period", said DelPorto. "4 of the 5 are local stand-outs who will not only make an immediate impact on our team but hopefully bring the community back into Bowen Field House to support EMU Wrestling."
Novak, who is expected to wrestle in the 133 lbs. weight class next year, is a three time Michigan State place-winner, a two-time finalist and a state champion.
Johnson will be expected to compete in the 141 lbs. class and boasts an impressive high school career. A three-time Michigan place-winner, two-time finalist, and a state champion.
Philips, a three-time state place winner will be expected to wrestle at 149 lbs.
Joseph, who is also a Michigan State Champion, will be looking to compete for a starting spot in the 157 lbs. weight class next year.
Foore, the lone Ohio recruit, is a three-time state of Ohio place-winner, and a two-time finalist who will be expected to compete in the 165 lbs. weight class.
DelPorto and the EMU wrestling team will be making their way to Golden, Colo. this weekend to compete in the Colorado School of Mines Quad, Nov. 18.
