EAST LANSING, Mich.
– Sophomores Sean Clair (Turtlecreek, Pa.-Plum) and David Pienaar (Trafford, Penn.-Greensbarg Central Catholic) led the way for the Eastern Michigan wrestling team today Nov. 12 at the Michigan State Open held in East Lansing, Mich. at Jenison Field House. The unscored event featured over 360 wrestlers from 21 schools.

Clair reached the quarterfinals of the main bracket by defeating Quentin Keyes (Ohio) by a 8-2 decision and Joel Trombly (Michigan State) by a 3-0 decision, before falling to T.J. Enright (Ohio State) by a 5-2 decision. Once in the consolation bracket, Clair made his way to the semi-finals, dropping a 4-2 decision to Ricky Deubel (Edinboro). Clair avenged his quarterfinal loss to Enright as the two met in the fifth place match with Clair winning by injury default.

After a first-round bye in the 141 lbs. class, Pienaar defeated Ryan Cubberly (Central Michigan) with a 7-6 decision before falling to Vincent Ramirez (North Carolina) by a 4-0 decision in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket Pienaar defeated Ryan Morgan (Edinboro) with a 6-3 decision, before falling by a 7-5 decision to Tony D’Alie (Central Michigan). Pienaar was then defeated by Mike Rappo (North Carolina) by a 18-7 decision, taking eighth place in the tournament.

The Eagles will travel to Golden, Colorado next to compete in the Colorado School of Mines Quad, Nov. 18.
