Conference foes too strong for Eagles

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country finished ninth out of 12 teams (185 points) Saturday here at the MAC Championships held at Beaver Island State Park. The Eagles, under the direction of first-year head coach Sue Parks, fell short of claiming a championship title but did see two of its runners finish in the top 20.

Junior Kalli Williams (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter) placed 13th overall with a time 21:15.55 and sophomore Melissa Green (Brecksville, Ohio-Broadview Heights) turned in a 17th place finish with a time of 21:19.50. There were 101 runners in the event.

Ohio University claimed first place in both the team and individual scoring. The Bobcats tallied 37 points while Carmie Reinhart set the pace with a time of 20:02.90.

The Eagles will now set their sights on Bowling Green, Ohio where they will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional for a chance to go to the NCAA Championship. The Regional competition will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 10 a.m.

Women's team scores: Ohio 37, Bowling Green 113, Akron 129, Toledo 138, Ball State 151, Western Michigan 159, Central Michigan 172, Miami 177, Eastern Michigan 185, Kent State 240, UB 254, Northern Illinois 277.

Women's First Team All-MAC: Carime Reinhart (Ohio), Mary Veith (UB), Andrea Mass (Ohio), Kim Settle (Bowling Green), Sediah Erskine (Akron), Kari Summers (Ohio), Jamie Roflow (Bowling Green).

Women's Second Team All-MAC: Stephanie Blackstone (Kent State), Jackie Rivard (Central Michigan), Dagmara Handzlik (Toledo), Jennie Stoll (Miami), Annie Beecham (Ohio), Kalli Williams (Eastern Michigan), Nicole Camp (Toledo).

Women's MAC Coach of the Year: Clay Calkins (Ohio).
