YPSILANTI, Mich. –
Freshman Maggie Christensen (Orlans Parks, Ill.-AA Stagg) scored her team leading fourth goal of the season to pace the Eastern Michigan women’s soccer to a 2-0 victory on senior day here at Scicluna Field. The victory also marked the sixth shutout of the season for freshman goalkeeper Monquie Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair Secondary) who made nine saves in the contest.With the win, EMU moves to 6-7-2 (3-5 MAC) while Northern Illinois falls to 4-9-2 (3-5 MAC) on the season.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at the 8:41 mark of the first half as Christensen headed the ball past NIU goalkeeper Lindsey Curnock on an assist from junior Jill Kehler (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc) and sophomore Katie Zundel (Utica. Mich.-Henry Ford).
In the 67th minute of the second half, freshman Katie Lozar (Broadview Heights, Ohio-Brecksville) put the game out of reach scoring her second goal of the season on a shot from the top of the box that sailed out of Curnock’s reach to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Junior Sara Schiffbauer (Westerville, Ohio-North) recorded her second assist of the season on the goal.
Before the game, the Eagles honored its three seniors, Cyndi Mullins (Gahanna, Ohio-St. Francis DeSales), Lauren Clyne (Macomb, Mich.-Henry Ford II) and Allison Stier, Loveland, Ohio-Loveland) for their hard work and dedication to EMU soccer.
EMU hits the road for a match against Toledo Friday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m.
