EMU Drops MAC Opener to Buffalo

— The University at Buffalo used a 29-6 run to propel to the Bulls to a 78-62 win over Eastern Michigan in the conference opener for both teams here Wednesday night at Alumni Arena. With the victory Buffalo improves to 11-1 and 1-0 in Mid-American Conference play, while Eastern falls to 3-6 and 1-0 in conference.

Senior Danny McElhinny (Hermitage, Pa/Kennedy Catholic) had a season-best 17 points to lead EMU while John Bowler (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame) added 12 points and six boards.

Calvin Cage paced the UB attack with 20 points while Yassin Idbihi and Roderick Middleton contributed 17 points each for the Bulls.

Up 20-19 with seven minutes to go in the first half, the Bulls went on a 29-6 run to give them a 49-25 edge at halftime. Buffalo shot a blistering 66 percent (19-of-29) from the floor during the first 20 minutes, including hitting 8-of-11 from beyond the arc.

The Bulls extended their lead to 28 points just 3 minutes into the second half before the Eagles were able to trim the lead to 67-51 with under five minutes to play.

The Eagles are next in action traveling to Oxford, Ohio Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 4 p.m. game against the Miami RedHawks.
