Tennis Drops Season Opener at MSU

Debut of first year Head Coach Craig Capelli spoiled by the Spartans
EAST LANSING, Mich. -
The debut of first year Head Coach Craig Capelli didn't go as planed as the Eastern Michigan University women's team fell, 6-1, in their season opener to inter-state foe Michigan State University here at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing, Mich. With the loss, the Eagles are 0-1 on the season while the Spartans move to 5-1.On the singles side, the lone bright spot for the Eagles was the play of sophomore Aditi Krishman (Merkhem, Onterio-Canada-Markville Secondary School) who notched her first career victory at the No. 3 singles position with a 6-4, 6-1 straight set victory of MSU's Sarah Andrews. Junior Laura Fernandez (La Vega,Dominican Republic-Colegio Inmaculada Concepcion) took the first set from Ana Milosavljevic in a tie breaker at the No. 6 position but was not able to hold on as Milosavljevic fought back and took the next two sets and the match, 6-7 (0-5), 7-5, 6-4. Michigan State went on to notch victories at the No. 1, 2, 4, and 5 positions to close out the match.
During doubles play, MSU opened the match sweeping all three doubles matches to earn one point. The Eastern Michigan tandem of Vanessa Frankowski Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium) and Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64) put forth a valiant effort before falling in a tie breaker to Christine Bader and Sarah Andrews, 8-8 (7-5).
The Eagles are next in action on January 29, for a 1:30 p.m. road dual match against the University of Detroit.
