Wrestling Downed by No. 6 CMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team fell to No. 6 ranked Central Michigan University in a Mid-American Conference dual match here at Bowen Field House, Jan. 29. The loss drops EMU to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in MAC competition, while Central improves to 9-4 and 1-0 in the the league.

Central Michigan came out of the gate with two quick victories as Luke Smith defeated freshman #16 Sean Clair (Turtlecreek, PA-Plum) in the 125 weight class, 7-0, and then Jason Borelli took down Phillip Plowman (Sunfield, Mich.-Lakewood) in a hard fought match 6-5, in the 133 class. Then junior Nick Conklin (Milton, Wisc.-Milton) got the Eagles on the board in the 141 weight class edging Eric Kruger by a score of 3-2.

In the 149 class senior Jermain Thompson (Akron, Ohio-Kenmore) was defeated by the Chippewas' Mark DiSalvo by a score of 9-5. Senior Chad Roush (Davison, Mich.-Davison) got the Eagles back in it, trailing 12-5, with an exciting 6-4 overtime win over Justin Petrone in the 165 pounds class. Central then won the next four matches to put the dual away capped off by two big victories when Wynn Michalak pinned sophomore Tony Lyssiotis (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) at 4:48 and then in the heavy weight class as Bubba Gritter defeated Jake Wood (Miamisburg, Ohio-Miamisburg) by a score of 14-4.

The Eagles hit the road next Saturday, Feb. 4, as they will travel to the University at Buffalo to take on the Bulls. The action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
