YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Eastern Michigan University’s women’s gymnastics team was defeated by cross-state rival Western Michigan, 192.025-191.650, Friday night at Warner Gymnasium. The Eagles fall to 1-1 (1-1 MAC) with the setback, while the Broncos improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league action.
Sophomore Jolene Worley had another stellar performance tonight capturing her second consecutive all around title with a total of 38.650. The cumulative score of 38.650 is tied for her second highest all around total in her brief two year collegiate career. Individually, Worley won the floor event with a total of 9.825. The Orlando, Fla. native also finished third on the bars (9.700), fourth on the vault (9.625) and tied for eighth on the beam (9.500).
Bennett earned a first place finish on vault with a season best 9.750. It marked the third time in her brief collegiate career that she has won the event and the first time since March 13, 2005 at Rutgers. Bennett also scored a 9.6755 on the uneven bars for a sixth place showing while placing 12th on the floor exercise with a mark of 9.075.
The Eagles and the Broncos tied on vault with a 47.875. The Green and White captured the beam event with a mark of 48.850, but Western prevailed with high scores on bars and floor to win the meet.
EMU gymnastics travels to Central Michigan Saturday, Feb. 4, to compete in the Michigan Classic. The Eagles will take on CMU, WMU, Michigan State and Michigan at 7 p.m. in Rose Arena.
