Eagles Fall to MAC East-leading Zips

Zips outscored the Eagles 43-24 in the second half
AKRON, Ohio -- The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team fell to Mid-American Conference East Division leader Akron, 79-6, here Saturday night at the James A. Rhodes Arena. EMU held a slim one-point advantage at the half, but the Zips out-scored the Eagles 43-24 in the second half to claim the victory.
The Eagles, now 3-11 (0-6 MAC) on the year, were led by senior John Bowler (Chicago, Ill.-Notre Dame), who scored a 16 points hitting 6-of-11 from the field. Freshman Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) chipped in 13 points while senior Danny McElhinny (Heritage, Pa.-Kennedy Catholic) added in 11 for the Eagles.
Junior guard Dru Joyce led four Zips in double figures with 16 points, including connecting on 6-of-10 from the field. Romeo Travis added 15 points with eight rebounds while Rob Preston and Nate Linhart each turned in 13 points. The win boosted Akron to 13-3 on the year and 6-0 in league play.
The Eagles are next in action Tuesday, Jan. 24, when they battle the Western Michigan University Broncos at the Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will also be telecast live on Comcast Local, cable channel 8 in the Ypsilanti area.
