Junior Lindsay Piccolini posts 13 kills and four total blocks
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team came up short in its bid to defeat cross-county rival Michigan Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Wolverines won the match 3-1 (25-30, 30-25, 25-30, 18-30) to capture their fifth consecutive win in the series over the Eagles dating back to the 1996 season.
With the victory, Michigan improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 5-2 on the season.
Michigan took game one 30-25 as Eastern trailed the entire game. In game two, Eastern jumped out to a three point advantage and never looked back to tie the match at 1-1, 30-25. Game three saw the two team battle back and fourth until U-M pulled away with five consecutive points to take the game 30-25. In the final frame, the Eagles never threatened as Michigan led by as many as 12 points to close out the match
Three Eagles tallied double-digit kills, including junior Lindsay Piccolini who added 13 kills and four total blocks (1 solo, 3 assist) in the setback. Seniors Becky Baltare and Olivia Hinkle each added 12 kills, as EMU only managed a .071 attack percentage for the contest. Sophomore Kate Sulewski added 43 set assists, while Baltare paced EMU with 17 digs.
For Michigan, Katue Bruzdzinski paced the attack with 18 kills, 10 digs and eight total blocks (1 solo, seven assist).
The Eagles continue their nine match road trip with a visit to Gainesville, Fla. for the Campus USA Credit Union Classic, Sept. 16-17. EMU will square off with California-Irvine before facing either IPFW or Florida.
