Lela V. Nelson Fifth At USA Outdoor Championships

Senior scores 5,726 in heptathlon; also finishes 19th in long jump

CARSON, Calif.-–Eastern Michigan University graduated senior Lela V. Nelson (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) finished fifth in the heptathlon and 19th in the long jump here, June 23-26, in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by VISA.

Nelson, who won the NCAA heptathlon championship earlier this month with a personal best score of 5,878, scored 5,726 points in finishing fifth in the heptathlon at the USA Championships. She also competed in the open long jump where she was 19th with a leap of 19-feet-3.25 inches.
