Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Shootout at the Legends

Eagles turned in a 914 total for top 10 finish in 19-team field

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team came up with a ninth-place finish in a 19-team field here Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 10-11) in the Shootout at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course.

The Eagles turned in rounds of 299-303-312 for a 914-stroke total, just four strokes away from finishing in the top six. Kent State won the team title with an 882 total (303-291-288) with Illinois State second at 886 (301-298-287), Missouri third with an 889 (301-293-295), Notre Dame fourth at 890 (298-297-295), Toledo fifth at 898 (305-294-299), and Illinois sixth at 910 (305-300-305). Rounding out the top 10 were St. John's at 912 (312-304-296), Louisville 913 (312-302-299), Eastern Michigan 914, and Campbell University at 915 (313-302-300).

Sophomore Catherine Fortin led the Eagles, finishing in a tie for 17th after shooting a 224 on rounds of 75-74-75. Freshman Stephany Fleet tied for 20th with a 225 on rounds of 73-74-78 while junior Kelly Boogaard tied for 50th after shooting 74-81-77 for a 232-stroke total followed by sophomore Paola Sanchez in a tie for 64th at 237 after rounds of 77-78-82 and freshman Courtney Aili finished tied for 77th with rounds of 77-77-86 for a 240-stroke total.
