Junior Corey Nowitzke leads the Eagles with a 14-place finish
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- - The Eastern Michigan University men’s cross country team came up with one of its strongest efforts of the season to finish fifth here Saturday (Nov. 12) in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on the Indiana University course.
"Our team ran very well and we are hoping to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships," EMU men’s Head Coach John Goodridge said of his team’s fifth-place finish. "We will know more about the NCAA meet Monday (Nov. 14)."
Wisconsin won the team title with 49 points while Notre Dame was second with 58, Ohio State third at 119, Butler fourth with 150 and EMU fifth. The top 10 teams are listed below.
Eastern Michigan junior Corey Nowitzke (Jr.-R.-Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) turned in a 14-place finish, with a 31:28.0 clocking. Other Eagles chasing Nowitzke to the finish line were Josh Karanja (Fr.-R.-Ottawa, Ontario, Canada-Nepean) in 30th (32:02.2); Neal Naughton (Fr.-R.-Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Western) in 34th (32:16.2); Josh Perrin (Fr.-R.-Hillsdale, Mich.-Hillsdale) 37th in 32:21.6; Alan Walker (Jr.-R.-Phoeniz, Ariz.-Greenway) 47th in 32:17.0; Kyle Mena (Fr.-R.-Portage, Mich.-Northern) 61st in 32:59.8; and David Brent (Fr.-Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary’s Catholic Central) in 121st in 34:48.9.
