Volleyball Sweeps Buffalo

Junior Lindsay Piccolini posts 16 kills and eight total blocks
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team swept a visiting University at Buffalo squad, 3-0 (30-24, 30-24, 30-21) here Friday night at the Convocation Center in Mid-American Conference action. With the victory the Eagles improve to 16-6 (9-2 MAC) on the season, while the Bulls drop to 9-16 (1-10 MAC).
In the first set, the two teams traded points, knotting the score at 7-7. EMU rattled off 16 of the next 26 points to take a 23-17 lead. The Green and White wrapped up the frame 30-24 as junior Lindsay Piccolini chalked up four kills and three block assists for a total of 5.5 points. Seniors Becky Baltare and Olivia Hinkle added four kills apiece, while sophomore Kate Sulewski tallied 15 set assists.
In the second game, EMU rolled off 10 quick points to take a 10-2 advantage lead. The Bulls responded though with a 22-16 run to pull within two points at 26-24. Eastern was able to stave off the charge and seal the 2-0 match lead with a 30-24 victory. EMU's Lindsay Piccolini added a game-high seven kills and five total blocks (2 solo, 3 assist), while UB was paced by Lauren Burd with five kills and two block.
In the finale, the two teams battled back-and-fourth until the Bulls took a one point advantage at 8-7. The Eagles responded with five consecutive points, 12-8, forcing Buffalo to call a time-out. Buffalo would never threaten again as EMU was able to close out the game and the match with two consecutive points from Lindsay Piccolini.
For the game, EMU was paced by Lindsay Piccolini with 16 kills and eight total blocks (2 solo, 6 assist) for a total of 21.0 points. Baltare (10 kills, 10 digs) and sophomore Melissa Bartlett (16 kills, 10 digs) posted double-doubles for the Eagles. Junior Ashley Cudney led EMU with 15 digs, while Sulewski recorded 53 assists, while Barlett posted 14 digs.
For Buffalo, Burd paced the attack with 15 kills and four total blocks (1 solo, 3 assist). Amy Brown recorded 27 set assists and 12 digs, while Nikki Morzenti added 12 digs
The Eagles continue their homestand tomorrow night, Oct. 29, as cross divisional foe Akron invades the Convocation Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
