Women's Golf Shatters School Records at Rocket Fall

Sophomore Catherine Fortin sets school record for lowest three-round score
TOLEDO, Ohio. – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished as the runner-up at the inaugural Rocket Fall Classic, Sept. 24-25, with another record-setting performance at the par-72, 6,092-yard Heather Downs Country Club. The Eagles shattered the team’s 54-hole record by 26 strokes with a 42-over par 906.
Sophomore Catherine Fortin set school records for the second straight day by posting the lowest 54-hole stroke total with an even-par 216 (67-71-78) en route to finishing as the runner up to Toledo's Tammy Clelland. She also had set EMU’s 18-hole record with a five-under par 67 in the first round. Fortin led four Eagles finishing in the top 20 and was followed by junior Kelly Boogaard (76-72-81—229/T-8th), sophomore Paola Sanchez (77-77-78—232/T-15th) and freshman Stephany Fleet (77-77-79—233/T-18th). Also competing for Eastern were senior Jamee Plastow (84-75-79—238/T-28th) and junior Katie Strawser (78-80-81—239/T-33rd).
Eastern broke two team records on the first day of the inaugural Rocket Fall Classic. The opening rounds of 297 and 295 top the previous single-round record of 300 set at the Lady Hawkeye Invitational, April 14, 2001. The Green and White's two-round mark of 592 bettered the previous best of 610 set at the Ball State Cardinal Classic, Sept. 7-8, 2002.
Individually, Fortin's first round 67 broke the previous single-round record of 70 set by Heather Nolan at the Cardinal Classic, Sept. 8, 2002, while her two-round score of 138 betters the mark by 11 strokes as Nolan carded a 147 at the Cardinal Classic.
