Eastern Michigan University Head Baseball Coach Mark Van Ameyde announced on August 25, that Jordan Keur has been named a volunteer assistant coach for the Eagles' baseball program. Keur makes the transition to a coaching role with Van Ameyde after playing under him at Michigan State from 2010-13.
"I am elated that Jordan has decided to join me here at Eastern Michigan," noted Coach Van Ameyde. "He was part of our first recruiting class at MSU, so I have seen Jordan grow up from high school to playing for us at MSU, winning a Big Ten Championship. He is a tireless worker that brings a lot of energy to the position, standing out for the way he competed and maximizing his ability to his fullest. Jordan will be a tremendous asset to the program, and I am excited to see him work with our athletes. There is no doubt they will benefit from his knowledge and experience."
In his four-year playing career in East Lansing, Keur started 155 games for the Spartans and finished his career with a .315 average. He was a vital member of the winningest class in MSU baseball history. As a senior, he was named a team captain as well as MSU's sportsmanship recipient after playing an intricate role both on and off the field. Keur started 30 consecutive games and was the Spartans' best hitter, leading the team with a .337 average and 20 RBI, before tearing his Achilles. Despite the injury, Keur was awarded the teams' Kirk Gibson Offensive Player of the Year award.
An All-Big Ten First Team honoree as a junior, Keur started all 60 games and led MSU to a NCAA Regional appearance. He also paced the Spartans in numerous hitting categories including: batting average (.353), hits (89) and multi-hit games (31). His 89 hits were the fourth-most for a single season in MSU history and ranked second in the conference that year. He was also among the Big Ten leaders in on-base percentage (.432) and runs (47). He finished out the season by being named team MVP and Academic All-Big Ten.
During his first two seasons as a Spartan, the Hudsonville, Mich. native appeared in 65 games, including 53 as a sophomore, when MSU won the Big Ten Championship. As the primary starter in left field, he delivered the biggest clutch hit of his career at the time when he blasted the game-winning homer in the top of the 10th to lead MSU past Ohio State, 5-4, on the road, April 15.
Following his playing career, Keur graduated from Michigan State with a bachelor's degree in advertising. He attempted to make a comeback, signing to play professionally for the Washington Wild Things; however, his previous injury prevented him from completing the comeback.
