YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University women's track and field student-athlete Jasmine Jones earned the bronze medal in the 2-Woman Bobsleigh for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy, Feb. 21.

Jones and her bobsled pilot, Kaillie Armbruster Humphries, started the first day of competition off strong, setting a track record in the first heat with a time of 56.92 to put them in first place. After the second heat with a time of 57.24, they were in third place going into the second day of competition, leading the three U.S. teams.

On day two, Jones and Humphries saw a time of 57.57 for the third heat, keeping them in third place overall going into the fourth and final run. Their last run secured a third-place finish and bronze medal with a total time of 3:49.21.

Germany took both gold and silver medals, as the team of Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi earned gold with an overall time of 3:48.46, while the team of Lisa Buckwitz and Neele Schuten earned silver in 3:48.99.

The second U.S. team of Kaysha Love and Azaria Hill finished fifth in 3:49.71, while the third U.S. team of Elana Meyers Taylor and Jadin O'Brien finished seventh in 3:50.49.

Jones became the ninth Eastern Michigan student-athlete to win an Olympic medal, adding a new chapter to the school's track and field Olympic history. Her bronze medal in the two-woman bobsled for Team USA marked the first Olympic medal by an EMU athlete competing for the United States since Earl Jones earned bronze in the 800 meters at the 1984 Games. The list of EMU Olympic medalists spans multiple eras and countries, including Hayes Jones for the United States in the hurdles, Hasely Crawford for Trinidad and Tobago in the 100 meters, Sevatheda Fynes for the Bahamas in relay events, and Clement Chukwu and Nduka Awazie for Nigeria in the 4x400 relay. Jones' medal returns EMU to the Olympic podium for Team USA after more than 4 decades.

Furthermore, Jones was the first Winter Olympian for Eastern, adding to a tradition of track and field alumni in the Summer Olympics since 1960.
