Joe Stephenson joined Eastern Michigan University Athletics in July 2025 as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. He serves as the primary athletic trainer for the football and women's tennis programs.
Prior to joining Eastern Michigan, Stephenson served as an Athletic Trainer Intern at Bowling Green State University during the 2025-26 academic year. While at Bowling Green, he worked with the football, women's track and field, and women's swimming and diving programs.
Stephenson gained experience through several athletic training internships while completing his education. He worked with the University of Cincinnati football program as a Sports Medicine Student Manager in 2022 before serving as a Sports Medicine Intern at Mount St. Joseph University in 2023. In 2024, he completed a football sports medicine internship at Penn State University, where he was part of a staff that helped the Nittany Lions earn a College Football Playoff berth, win the Fiesta Bowl, and advance to the Orange Bowl. He also completed an OTA Sports Medicine Internship with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Stephenson graduated from Colerain High School in 2017. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with minors in psychology and nutrition from the University of Cincinnati in 2023 before completing his Master of Science in Athletic Training at Cincinnati in 2025.
