Eastern Michigan University has named Tamara Ards the new assistant women’s track and field coach effective immediately, head coach Sue Parks announced today.

Ards joins the EMU women’s track and field staff after serving as the track coordinator at Louisiana State University since 2005. While at LSU she was responsible for all facets of the track department’s recruiting efforts, fund-raising, travel arrangements and meet management.

The 33--year-old Ards (1-22-73) was also an assistant track coach at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 2002-05 where she worked with both the men’s and women’s track programs.

A 1995 graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Ards competed on the women’s track team from 1991-96 and earned All-American honors on the 4 x 400-meter relay team in 1996 and was also a Big 8 Academic All-American four times (1992-95). Ards set the school record in the 400 meters and was the team captain from 1992-96. In addition she was singled out as the athletic representative on the President’s Title IX Committee.
