The 2022-23 season will be Jayson Wiseman’s fifth year as the Head Women’s Tennis coach at Eastern Michigan University.

Wiseman led the 2021-22 team to a 15-16 overall record, with a 3-7 mark in Mid-American Conference play. Under his guidance, the team totaled three Mid-American Conference weekly honors during the spring season, and saw freshman Prerna Vichare named to the conference’s second team. Additionally, redshirt senior Luisa Pelayo earned the league’s Leann Grimes Davidge Sportsmanship Award, becoming the first Eagle to receive the honor since 2001.

After no fall competition due to COVID-19, Wiseman led the team to a 10-17 record in the 2021 spring season. In total, he saw his team earn nine weekly Mid-American Conference honors including seven doubles team of the week awards and two singles players of the week. Additionally, the team had six Academic All-MAC honorees, the most since 1987, and was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team. Furthermore, the Eagles had seven ITA Scholar-Athletes and redshirt junior Luisa Pelayo was selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum.

Before COVID-19 ultimately cut the 2019-20 season short, Wiseman was able to coach the team to 10 wins. That marked the first time the program had back-to-back 10-win seasons since the 2005-06, 2006-07 campaigns.

In his second season, Wiseman led the Eagles to the fifth-seed in the 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 16-10 overall record before the program was suspended at the end of 2017-18 academic year.

Wiseman has made the steady climb up the ranks in the tennis coaching circuit, working at the high school, club, and now collegiate levels. In total, he has eight years of NCAA Division I tennis experience with stops at EMU, the University of Evansville, Wright State University, and Bowling Green State University.

In the 2017-18 season, Wiseman oversaw a 10-game improvement in the win column from just six in 2016-17 to 16 in 2017-18. Under his tutelage, then-senior Ani Gogvadze became the first Eagle to collect First Team All-MAC honors since 2015, putting together a stellar 20-3 record in duals that included winning her first 16 matches of the season.

Before his arrival in Ypsilanti, Wiseman turned around the Evansville program in two seasons, going from eight wins in 2015-16 to 17 in 2016-17. Recruiting was the biggest reason for Wiseman's turnaround, as Evansville's 2016 recruiting class was ranked eighth in the mid-majors and 33rd nationally.

After going winless in the Missouri Valley Conference play during his inaugural season, Wiseman led Evansville to a second-place finish in the MVC with a 5-2 record the following year. For their efforts, Diana Tkachenko earned the league's Freshman of the Year award while Chieko Yamada earned a nod on the All-Select Team. Tkachenko completed a spectacular freshman campaign at UE, as she went 31-8 overall and 6-1 in conference play, and earned a final ITA regional ranking of No. 20. Slotted at No. 1 singles for the Purple Aces in 2016-17, Yamada won 18 matches while going an impressive 4-3 in conference matches in the top spot. In the fall of 2017 sophomore Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga gained an ITA national ranking of No. 117, the program's first in 20 years.

Wiseman made his way to Evansville from Wright State where he was an assistant coach for the Raiders in 2015.  He worked with both the men’s and women’s squads at WSU, with the women's team achieving the most dual match victories of any team in the Horizon League.

From 2005-15, he was the sole proprietor and head professional of his own tennis services company. In that time, he also worked at Stone Oak, Shadow Valley and Toledo Tennis Clubs, serving as an assistant head tennis professional.

He coached at the high school level from 2008-11, leading the boys and girls tennis teams at Sylvania (Ohio) Southview Senior High School. In his stint there, he coached the school’s first four State Tournament participants since 1995 and was named the 2009 Coach of the Year, while leading the team to its first league championship.

Between 2004 and 2007, Wiseman worked at Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green as a volunteer assistant coach. He designed and implemented a comprehensive conditioning program for the team and also operated their annual invitational tournament. His work with the Falcons also included recruiting, coaching in matches and practice, and various NCAA compliance activities.

Wiseman is a graduate of Ferris State University where he received a B.S. in Marketing and Professional tennis management in May of 2002. Wiseman went on to earn a pair of degrees from BGSU. He earned a Master’s in Sport administration in 2011 and an M.C.J.A. in Criminal justice a year later.

Wiseman and wife, Trena, have nine children: Trena, Carrina, Evangelina, Alexander, Ashton, Amelina, Jasmina, Anderson, and Rosalena.
